Program Strengths
We are a mid-sized department offering courses in all major fields of philosophy. Students seeking a PhD in philosophy will find rich course offerings and opportunities for research. The department is primarily analytic in orientation, and distinguished by its unusually wide range of special areas of focus in both theoretical and applied philosophy, and by the high degree of faculty-student interaction both in scholarly enterprises and in departmental affairs. 16 of our 42 PhD graduates since 2008 have received tenured or tenure-track academic appointments; of the remainder 7 have secure positions in which their PhD training is of relevance to their work.
