Additional efforts to increase inclusiveness

Our department recognizes the damage that sexism and racism have caused in academic communities in general and philosophy departments in particular. We have collectively committed ourselves to measures that we hope will help to cultivate and sustain an inclusive environment. These include improving gender and race inclusiveness at our weekly speaker series, both with respect to the diversity of our speakers and the protocols of discussion; focusing on outreach to historically under-represented populations in our admissions process; and making deliberate efforts to include such students in classroom discussions.
