UM Philosophy has an active Minorities and Philosophy chapter which hosts talks, reading groups and discussions about non-Western philosophy and issues related to race, gender, disability and other social distinctions: https://lsa.umich.edu/philosophy/news-events/all-events/minorities-and-philosophy--map-.html. The Philosophy Department runs an annual workshop for students considering graduate school in Philosophy (COMPASS at Michigan), which brings together students from a diversity of backgrounds for a weekend of philosophical discussion, networking and mentoring: https://lsa.umich.edu/philosophy/news-events/all-events/minorities-and-philosophy--map-/compass-workshop-call-for-applications.html. The Department annually designates a committee of faculty devoted to addressing climate concerns. The UM Rackham Graduate School regularly conducts departmental climate surveys. The University provides faculty with annual training and education regarding issues concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion through the ADVANCE program (http://advance.umich.edu/index.php). Faculty in our department participate in directing workshops for the university at large through the university-wide STRIDE Committee, which provides information and advice about practices that will maximize the likelihood that diverse, well-qualified candidates for faculty positions will be identified, and, if selected for offers, recruited, retained, and promoted at the University of Michigan. The Department regularly provides accommodations for faculty, guest speakers, students, and others with disabilities. We offer a wide range of courses in which philosophers from underrepresented groups are included on the syllabus in proportion to their numbers in the profession. Faculty regularly offer courses that have been certified by the University as satisfying the Race & Ethnicity Requirement (https://lsa.umich.edu/lsa/academics/lsa-requirements/race-and-ethnicity--r-e--requirement.html), which is a university-wide requirement requiring students to take a course which addresses issues arising from racial or ethnic intolerance and resulting inequality, and which includes comparisons of discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, social class, or gender.
