This is an important issue for the Department. We have a very active Climate Committee, which involves faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students and staff, as well as a MAP chapter at the Department. Over the years several measures have been taken to increase inclusiveness, and we continue to work actively on this in the Department.

Entrance Scholarships: The program has several excellent entrance scholarships, including the Rotman Institute of Philosophy scholarships valued at $10,000 for students in philosophy of science and the Barnard Scholarship valued at $15,000 for students in political philosophy. In addition, there are Faculty of Arts & Humanities entrance scholarships that typically range from $1000 to $5000.

Program Strengths:
The MA in Philosophy at Western is a one-year funded program. Students take six one-term courses and write a 10,000 word research paper over the summer (which may, but need not, develop work from one of their courses). Each year the courses available reflect the strengths and diversity of interests of the faculty, which collect along five principal fields: feminist philosophy; history of philosophy (ancient, medieval and modern); moral, political and legal philosophy; philosophy of mind and language; and philosophy of science (including mathematics and logic.
Program Strengths:
There are two streams in the Ph.D. program in Philosophy at Western. Students entering with an MA (as most do) are enrolled in a four-year funded program. In first year students take courses; in their second they take a comprehensive exam in their main research area and complete a course that will lead the writing and defense of a thesis prospectus; their third and fourth years are spent writing their dissertations. The courses and supervision available reflect the strengths and diversity of interests of the faculty, which collect along five principal fields: feminist philosophy; history of philosophy (ancient, medieval and modern); moral, political and legal philosophy; philosophy of mind and language; and philosophy of science (including mathematics and logic).
There is also a five-year program for students entering with a BA. Students in this stream are funded for five years. The program is as described above, but with an extra year of coursework at the beginning.
