We normally fill 12 teaching assistant positions, combined between our M.A. and PhD students. For 2020-21, these 9-month TA positions provided a full tuition waiver plus a $12,500 annual stipend. Additional competitive fellowships, which can boost the stipend, are available for some eligible PhD applicants. M.A. students receive two years of funding, PhD students three years. Adjunct teaching is sometimes available for PhD students who have exhausted their teaching assistantship.

Program Strengths

We offer separate M.A. and PhD programs, and the PhD is a three-year degree open only to students who have already received their M.A. We have particular strengths in philosophy of religion, philosophy of mind and psychology, epistemology, and the history of philosophy.
